This "heavenly dessert" is
light and delicious.
Ingredients:
9 large egg whites
1/2 teaspoon salt (or less)
1-1/3 tsp. vanilla
Cool Whip
1/4 heaping tsp. Cream of Tartar
2 cups sugar (or 1-3/4 cups)
One package thawed frozen red raspberries or strawberries
9" Angel Food Cake pan, buttered, w/removable center
Directions:
In large mixing bowl beat egg whites on high.
Slowly add sugar, vanilla, salt and Cream of Tartar.
Beat until "pretty stiff" (about 10 minutes).
Scoop gently into the buttered pan -- do NOT drop in.
Put into a preheated 450 degree oven, then TURN THE OVEN OFF!
Leave the Forgotten Angel Cake inside the cooling oven - 6 to 10 hours.
Do not open the oven door until you take out the cake.
Loosen the meringue around the side with wet knife or spatula.
Do the same with center and bottom.
Frost heavily with Cool Whip.
Refrigerate uncovered until ready to serve.
Serve with thawed berries and juices poured over top or in a dish
served on the side. |
