Women, And My 25 Years
by Jim Szaller

It is sad but true that women were used as guinea pigs during the 1970s to test IUDS. An IUD (intrauterine device) is a foreign body made of plastic and inserted into a woman's uterus as a form of temporary contraception. The last quarter of a century I spent representing women injured by the Dalkon Shield IUD. Although much has been written about the Dalkon Shield, I nonetheless felt it necessary to write my own article chronicling these incredible 25 years. The article, entitled One Lawyer's 25 Year Journey: The Dalkon Shield Saga, was written in layman's ten-ns, and expresses, to the best of my personal ability, the pain I felt for the many women physically and mentally injured by having this device in their bodies. It's all about a little piece of plastic, a string, and greed.

The article has been published in Ohio Trial. If you would like a reprint of the article, I would be pleased to mail it to you. Just check the box on the postcard attached to this issue of the Quarterly or call.

Now that my first 25 years as a lawyer has ended, I look forward to the next 25, which is devoted to representing personal injury victims.
