This is a really nice story. The story begins with a tragedy, but like all nice stories has a happy ending.
Linda was injured by a medical product, which left her unable to have children. She came to Brown & Szaller, and we resolved her claims by bringing a lawsuit on her behalf. Although the lawsuit was successfully resolved, in actuality we had done little to help Linda except to give her money -- we could not give her a baby. And money is hardly a substitute for human loss.
But now the happy ending. Since Linda badly wanted a child, but was not physically able to become pregnant, she did the next best thing -- she decided to adopt. Knowing the difficulty of adopting a child in the United States, she traveled to a different country. There, she met her darling daughter, Vivian, and as they say "it was love at first sight." Vivian was adopted, and Linda and Vivian are now a family.
One of the most frustrating aspects of being a lawyer is realizing how little can be done to truly help clients who have been injured. All we can do is give them money, but sometimes that is so insufficient. But at least in this case, it gave Linda the chance to start her family.
